A look at the band Hillbilly Casino, an extremely talented and
exciting group from Nashville, TN. With a loyal, local following, touring in
support of the likes of Brian Setzer, and being filmed as part of a reality TV
show; one would think Hillbilly Casino is a successful band making a fair amount
of money. While they are successful in many ways, earning a living playing music
is extremely hard. Hillbilly Casino tours crammed into an old van, paying their
own expenses; produces their own CDs; and plays for tips on Friday nights. See
the passion in their vibrant music and their commitment to the continuation of
their dream.
West Middletown, Pennsylvania

West Middletown, PA was settled in 1795. In the Mid 1800s it
was a thriving community. West Middletown is rich in history as well. It was a
stop on the Underground Railroad, where John Brown would visit. The first wheat
thrashing machine was built there. It is home to one of the nation's oldest
African Methodist Episcopal Churchs. Rev. Alexander Campbell, founder of the
Christian, or Disciples of Christ Church and Bethany College, spent many years
around West Middletown. And more recently, the movie "Night of the Living Dead"
was even filmed around town.
But today West Middletown is a town that is in decay. With
buildings falling into the ground, gone are the days where the general store was
the center of a strong community. Today the general store is gone. There is no
real business to speak of. Not much happens around West Middletown anymore. But
all is not lost. The rich history and spirit of the town when it was the way it
was meant to be, still lives on in the stories of those who grew up there.
Stories that tell of a better time and place.
